The Thomas Register Will Cease Publication To Go Totally Online
ClickZ News is reporting that the 2006 edition of the Thomas Register of American Manufacturers will be the last edition printed. From now on their database will be available only online. For more than 100 years, the Thomas Register of American Manufacturers has been in every library and on every industrial buyer's desk - a massive set of volumes of every product and every manufacturer in America, or close to it. Every book I've ever seen on direct marketing or mailorder has recommended searching the pages of the Thomas Register for manufacturers of products you'd like to sell, and I'm sure many people on eBay find their products through the Thomas Register. The move to being totally online is something that Thomas Register has apparently been working on for 10 years. Last year, the company bought more than 10,000 keywords in Google AdWords. It's interesting to see such an old, well-established company take such a radical departure from their traditional business model.
