Dave Winer, over at Scripting News.com, has a brief story and very high-level preview of Microsoft's plans for RSS (Really Simple Syndication) in their new "Longhorn" operating system. RSS will be deeply integrated into the new Internet Explorer browser.
For those who don't know, Dave Winer is the founder of Userland Software and a creator of some of the first outliners, content management systems (CMS), and weblog (blog) tools. He's also the author of Scripting News, one of the first blogs, and is a pioneer of RSS. Winer also developed the protocol XML-RPC which was adapted to create SOAP.
Microsoft was apparently interested in Winer's opinions on their direction with RSS in Longhorn, and their RSS team invited him to take a look at what they are doing, and apparently they managed to impress him with the direction they are going.
