Opera Eliminates Ad Banner and Licensing Fee
Guess Mozilla Firefox must have been cutting into the market share of the Opera web browser... Opera Software has announced that, as of September 20, 2005, they have permanently removed the ad banner and licensing fee from their award-winning Web browser. The new ad-free version of the Opera browser is full-featured Opera browser and is available for free download at http://www.opera.com/. "Today we invite the entire Internet community to use Opera and experience Web browsing as it should be," said Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "Removing the ad banner and licensing fee will encourage many new users to discover the speed, security and unmatched usability of the Opera browser." Previously, the free version of the Opera Web browser had an ad banner. To get rid of the ad banner, users had to pay a licensing fee.
