Is Google Toolbar PageRank (PR) Updating, Changing, or Going Away?

I noticed a couple days ago that the PageRank (PR) in the Google toolbar was 0 and gray for all of my websites! At first I thought something was wrong with all of my websites and Google had banned them.  But then I noticed that PR was 0 and gray even for Google!  Then I thought maybe a recent Windows update or Google toolbar update had broken things.  So I went out on the Web to try some PageRank tools on other sites.  Those tools showed 0 and gray for everything including Google also.

I'm not the only one that's seening this.  Now the Web is buzzing with speculation that Google might be:

• Doing a major PageRank update
• Changing the way they will do PageRank
• Ending PageRank all together to go to TrustRank, a whole new algorithm

I'm not sure anyone really knows what Google is doing, so the reaction is anywhere from anxious waiting (webmasters hoping their PR will go up) to fear and paranoia (webmasters fearing the end of the PageRank world and a switch to something new called TrustRank).

It should be interesting to see what happens when (if?) PageRank comes back up.  Keep an eye on your websites!
